First week of fatherhood has been crazy. I’m finally processing the labor. My wife did great; our baby is healthy; I helped as best as I could.

I’ve changed at least 20 diapers now. cool-dad

Congratulations! I'm glad everything went well! I hope your wife has a speedy recovery. This is definitely the most challenging phases, both physically and mentally. Remember, you're doing great, and you'll continue to be great. Try not to compare yourselves or your baby to anyone else, be your own measuring stick. Don't fret using bottles or formula either. It can be a major stressor, but a fed baby is a happy baby, no matter what. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

Enjoy whatever time you have with your growing family! I'm so excited for you!

Thanks, comdad. I actually haven’t been keeping good perspective today. So, this is a good reminder—it’s well taken wisdom.

One of our kids has been copying words they find in the house on to paper and asking us what they mean. It's been fun finding random words to write out and they've memorized a few. She saw a short word in all lower case and wrote it out in all capital letters. Maybe its a little silly but I felt really impressed that she was able to translate the underlying letters to their other form unprompted.

I'm one of the only parents in my local friends group so they just nod and give a "wow cool" response. One of the slightly overwhelming concerns I have as a parent is there is just so much to teach and learn, so it's a little deflating to me to share this incredible translation accomplishment that sounds mundane but I think is really cool. It was a great moment for us though and that's what matters.

That's very cool! I think the closest I've had to that kind of experience thus far with our kiddos was when our oldest presented me with a drawing of people she made while at daycare. They were little circles, with eyes, and a mouth, and little stick arms and legs (very very long stick arms and legs). I remember thinking, "last week you had no idea how to do this, I even tried showing you". Now her people have proper bodies and hair, and she often has something to present me after daycare "This is YOU DADDY!!". Every little drawing of "me" really makes my day, and every week she gets better at it. Now we regularly doodle together, and it's so fun.

Aw that's so sweet! Yeah they grow up so fast its hard to keep up. I also noticed I can ask my kids about books or tv shows and they can give me pretty good summaries of what happened when before I'd get blank stares or a "you tell me"

Kiddo 1 goes to dance every week, we rotate taking her. I usually keep to myself but I overheard some of the other parents talking about AirBnBs (positively, as in, owning one). I tuned in a little, and heard one of the parents saying things like "I don't know that I'm into having other people pay my mortgage" and "if they can afford the rent they could pay the mortgage". I couldn't help but join the discussion.

It was a nice little chat. We introduced ourselves, got to talking. I see him at the daycare in town too. Saw him again this week. Got caught up, got to talking, he described himself at some point as "a filthy Commy" to which said "Me too". Then we spent the rest of dance class talking about Commy stuff haha.

Comrades in the wild. Comrades at dance class.

I really fucking hope everyone is done being sick. It's been a rough week to say the least. I'm ramping up to start a job this week, and am still working on prepping for an interview for Tuesday, and I really can't afford anymore sick kids or sick partners, or sick mes lol.

I think we might be quiet quitting scouts. I figured there would be some conservative values and such but nah, they are straight up Christo-fascist indoctrination. My partner wants to raise our kids as Christian and I guess that's fine but even she said that the religious and conservative shit was a bit ick.

Personal news but we are officially under way for getting this PSL branch going. An at-large recruiter has reached out to me and we've talked a few times and my city has like 4 other at-large members. I also have a few key active people and some friends I want to reach out to. I'll probably have more info later.

Other than that, it's bee pretty smooth sailing for us this last week.

I was a baby plane otaku as a child so my boomer grillman parents enrolled me in the Civil Air Patrol. It was even more Christo-fascist, to the point where I was singled out for not attending the church service at the weird ass summer camp thing burgerpain.

The only upside was that I got to play a C-130 sim in a decommissioned C-130 cockpit for like 15 minutes.

There needs to be a red diaper baby league for all our kids lmao.

Kiddo spent some time at my SIL's this weekend, so I got a little bit of a break to work on some hobby stuff for once lol

@RedWizard@hexbear.net I have a(n) idea(s) for a story time post - can I just DM you a draft if I get around to writing it?
