I'm not shitting on them, I totally agree with what they say; it's just sometimes is weird to read people saying "AHA! Capitalism is evil because of this obscure philosophical thing" and I'm just like "Yeah, OK, that's fine, I realized the system is evil when looking at people suffering for artificial scarcities/wars/etc, but OK".
You know, reading a philosophical work from an old era they talk a lot about complex things all to end up saying "and that's why slavery is bad/women should be considered real people/etc". It's weird to me.
Like why are we still discussing this?
the philosophy isn't what turns you into an anti-capitalist - that's as you said, experiencing the direct harms and coming to understand their causes. but the philosophy is useful in understanding why these harms occur, how to combat them in the present moment, and how to push back against apologists who continue uncritically making these points. it's just people working out theory.
