They all made competitors and then kicked tiktok out of the market. They knew it would be used for counter propaganda so they had to make their own slop for deprogramming after they booted tiktok. I am going to miss my communist shortform slop

You definitely shouldn’t create an alternate Google account with the non-US country. That way, it would be trivially easy to switch accounts in the Play Store and download stuff from outside the US store, such as dangerous apps like TikTok.

True. I would recommend the vanilla method to most people though, and it’s the only option for iPhones unless you want to jailbreak.

That's what happened to me; I joined tiktok and Lemmy at the same time and I switched from a reddit liberal into a tankie. Lol

Does this work? I moved countries, and my app store still depends on the country associated to my account. I think it has to work this way, or else you could not receive updates while traveling.

I made an alternate account precisely so I could download banking apps that are only on the app store in the country where I live, while maintaining the apps I had from the old country.

I meant the VPN option. The alternate account definitely works; I’ve been using that method for years. I don’t think VPN changes your app store.

I suppose it matters how you consume it; if you use a phone, then you probably need to do that.

Unironically, though: on here you have neither ads nor premium subscriptions nor bonuses for logging in daily nor any reified progression. It's just people and the content they post. There are still factors that warp how we think and others that cause mild habit-forming behavior, but most of this is largely or fully under the control of each user.

There's a quiet war by five-eyes nations to subvert and bring to heal every major social media platform. They've been shitting bricks since Arab Spring.

I thought they essentially had control over the Arab spring? Wasn't it mostly used to advance Western interests in the end?

Nah, the reason is just frothingfash ”Chyna bad and stealing our data! Only Amurican companies are allowed to do that!”, everything else is a bonus.

No, that’s the fake reason. They don’t give a shit about data. The real reason is they can’t control the algorithm to make sure Americans stay the brainwashed bootlickers most of them are.

very true and also because the american competitors want the secret tiktok sauce (aka the algorithm) to duplicate their success in this country and successfully lobbied my government into either spilling the beans or go out of business.

I for one actually think this notion of banning TikTok has some interesting consequences. JD Vance is supposedly anti-big tech and he wants to promote smaller companies for 'free market competition'. This is also at a point in time where the US is pushing to regulate Google, with both the present Biden admin and the future Trump admin on board.

It's true that this is to service the middle-class, bolster American nationalism, and strengthen American domestic production/industry, as well as promote the idea of Big Capital against Small Capital (Big Capital is "woke" and "DEI", Small Capital is freedom). It is also true that the US, especially since the Biden admin, wants to offer some serious restructuring of the global and domestic economy.

I would not dismiss their arguments against China so sloppily if I were you. Public image is all rhetoric, it gets people riled up and excited. You shouldn't mistake that for reality. There is something much bigger going on underneath the surface that I don't think any left-wing groups/orgs in the US are capable of preparing for, even in the best case scenario...

JD Vance is the stooge of Peter Thiel, a tech giant who's the founder of Paypal and Palantir. He's lying about being anti-big tech, if anything he just wants big tech to be ideologically fascist, like Musk's Twitter.

They’re all lying. The American alphabet agencies can’t control tik tok which is why they want it banned. Can’t allow Americans to think freely or critically, must maintain manufactured consent.

That's true, but it doesn't make the method any less effective. Did anyone in the middle class care that the Nazis failed to abolish capitalism and for the most part only went after small Jewish capital? Did Americans care when Japanese, Chinese, and black small businesses were torched or had their owners attacked?

I don't believe Trump's policy will be unpopular among Americans, that's the gist of it. It's all political and ideological with these types, so they're free to do whatever with the economy. Anyone thinking this Trump administration sounds contradictory or dumb or ineffective or goes against popular demand or will crash the economy, etc., are not thinking straight.

And besides, the type of people who would ever disagree with this sort of policy - those people are not 'true Americans'. They never had a voice in America and they never will, their opinions can be safely discarded whenever we talk about people like Trump or Reagan.
