When I worry about this sort of stuff it helps me to remember that the actual event will only last for a limited time. Like "even if I fuck this up completely it's still only an hour of fucking up". Helps me calm down, your milage may vary.
Ask yourself this. If you're an actual communist/anarchist, and a big tent socialist org comes to recruit, do you think they're gonna reject even well-meaning people who haven't read theory and are already dabbling into socialist ideas ? Like that's the literal worst case scenario, and as long as you're ready to go out and do some actual IRL stuff, why would they reject you ?

This is really what I needed to hear. I have the basic ideas down obviously but I'm not as well versed on the specifics as I'd like to be. I'm extremely well versed in why capitalism is a fuck and I'm hoping all the William Blum books I've read about Amerikkka being shit will carry me to victory. ✊
