but they suppress free speech, you can't trust anything they say. by staying silent, aren't you just allowing them to get away with whatever they want?
There’s a difference between state media having a bias requiring a critical lens and literally everything they say being the opposite of the truth. You can trust the BBC on a lot of issues, for example.
Not trusting what they say doesn't mean everything is a lie, it means anything could be and anything should be suspect.
thanks for this response. as i mentioned before, i'm just sharing takes i encounter from radlib friends.
you did fail to respond with them getting away with whatever they want. a family member likened it to letting the nazis get away with the holocaust. if that was actually happening, wouldn't you be doing everything you could in your power to stop it?
in which case, why isn't my family member joining the military?
my bad takes are just rehashes of the same fucking conversation i have to have with every white radlib. i hate it so, so much, and i guess i just want you all to suffer in my pain lol
my honest position is mostly in alignment with bewts. our efforts, atm, are best focused domestically. struggle sessions about china are distractions and won't move forward our efforts in the US.
Being critical of China is something like "The US, Turkey, and various other nations have been funding the radicalization of Muslim Uighurs for several years, and the reeducation camps are a response to that attempt to destabilize China by deradicalizing those the have been radicalized, but they may be making mistakes not dissimilar in some ways from the mistakes the US has made in tackling Islamic radicalism" and not "Gyna doing big genocide in Uighurland."
The most bizarre thing about the pro-PRC Tankies is their belief that 2020 China isn’t a major capitalist player, as if there aren’t economic extremes within the country, as if China is ruled by working class people. It’s simultaneously racist and pure fantasy. "Racist, you say! But how?"Because basically people don’t believe a country full of non-white people could be crushing a white-dominated country at the imperialist capitalist game AND also that China, like, changed with time. People of color aren’t static cultural objects!
Full context for this tweet, btw. I agree with what you said, but the person in the screenshot is going overboard into "both sides are equally bad" territory
Remember, being a successful Socialist country means that you are imperialist. Only small isolated socialism is acceptable. Any attempt at actual global revolution is bad.
Modern China isn't even "imperialist" by supporting communist revolutions in other countries anymore. What makes them "imperialist" is their continued support for the DPRK (because they don't want to share a border with a US client state) and the fact that they have loaned money to other countries to build roads and ports and shit (despite the fact that Chinese loans are still dwarfed by IMF/WB loans to those same countries).
You could argue that the USSR was imperialist - I would disagree with you because I don't consider supporting proletarian revolutions to be imperialism, but you could argue it - but anyone saying it about China literally doesn't know what they're talking about.
but seriously, why can't we be critical of both?
I don't feel right spending my time criticizing china when there's a wave of racist anti-chinese sentiment going on. I'm not feeding into that.

Yeah good point. We just have to be really careful about how we're gonna criticize if we do.
