The damage is already done with the tiktok userbase. It doesn't matter whether he does or does not enforce it.

It only takes 1-2 weeks to lose control of the narrative, and once the narrative is set it's nearly impossible to change it. Just like Palestine, they lost control of the narrative and could never fix it.

This narrative is set. They've lost it. They can't undo what has been done this week with those that have been part of it.

I wouldn't be so hasty with that. I could totally see the tiktokers going back to tiktok. I say this because rednote isn't really a tiktok substitute, it's more of a chinese instagram. If the tiktokers went to douyin that would be different.

Going back to tiktok doesn't matter. They've all made their minds up.

Going back to tiktok doesn't change the fact that they've now decided not to be anti-china and that everything they previously knew about china was propaganda. Going forwards they will not swallow anti-china propaganda easily at all.

The damage is done. You can't double or triple deprogram them. People sticking around in the longterm just means sucking more people in and deprogramming them too, that's the reason they'd ban it, to stop it happening to even more people, but for those already involved in this the US has already lost.

Problem is the law stipulates MASSIVE, like ridiculously huge fines for app stores that continue to host the app so I don't see Apple/Google keeping it up even if Trump pinky promises not to enforce

masterful gambit by the Democrats, handing Trump the option to simply not enforce a ban on an extremely popular app that millions of people use in the US

if he doesn't ban Tiktok, can you imagine the scathing think-pieces on the NYT suggesting that Trump is in Xi's pocket? can you imagine how snarky Stephen Colbert will be? damn, that's an incredible trap Biden left behind, what a slick operator

I think it’s the other way around. No one other than Zuckerberg, AIPAC, and a few deep state ghouls actually want TikTok banned. It’s a super unpopular ban. Biden is now letting Trump claim the credit for actually allowing TikTok to stay around.

Trump, the dude who has made a career offf being ultra-capitalist businessman and was originally behind the idea of the TikTok ban, is now going to swoop in, make a deal with some ghoulish corporation in bed with the feds and American treat enjoyers will be all “wow maybe communism is bad and capitalism good? Capitalism saved tik tok, yay!!! Trump is finally running the country like a business and secretary Bezos and musk are creating more jobs than ever!!!!!!!1111”

Hey, don't forget that infrastructure bill that means I have to see a bunch of parking lots and ditches that say "Paid for by the Joe Biden Bipartisan Infrastructure Act"

I’m pretty sure their way of building parking lots is just sticking a sign in the middle of the desert that says “Boe Jiden Presidential Parking Lot”

The Don wants to keep TikTok around now too, since he apparently got a fat donation from one of his friends, who happen to own a large share of ByteDance stock.

Even with no financial incentive, Trump stopping the TIkTok ban after the rednote migration already happens converts like 10% of the american populace into an as of yet undiscovered syncretic politics of being open to china but also trump

It’s pretty easy for me to imagine a group of people who simply love siding with winners. They see in China a winner, and envision a future where Trump and China have a close alliance and dominate the world economically. Purely vibes based reasoning that wouldn’t surprise me at all.

You'd think X, Google, and Meta shareholders would just out bribe him to have him ban it again.
