Whenever this is brought up I'm torn. On its face, hurting someone who isn't directly involved in the violent enforcement arm of the state is bad. But I can't help but thinking that holding out for some perfect scenario where only truly deserving people get hurt is idealistic, and envisioning that type of scenario ignores the experience of every popular struggle ever.
Well, I didn't say it was. My point is more that setting the acceptable amount of harm to innocent people at zero is unrealistic. I don't think we contemplate that sort of implication enough when we talk about abandoning electoralism. Either we have to face that and come to terms with it, or we're not adequately appreciating the stakes of what we're talking about.
