so wow what a tear jerking ending. the way the cia bodyguard virgin was trying to get beth to spew american propaganda to the russian media or whatever was so annoying, and to have her basically tell him fuck you and go on a walk and meet with the old communist chess players and play a game with the people was so euphoric you have no idea. i don’t know if that was the intention but holy shit it was beautiful. did not expect this an ending and while beth probably isn’t a communist, it still made so much sense with the story. what a great mini series.

Hell yes! Didn't expect to see a mention on here, it was so good. Haven't binged anything in awhile. And as soon as tHe rUsSiaNS started to be mentioned I was like "here we go" but it was surprisingly humanizing and not too red-baity. Loved the sets, dress, and music too, I feel like it was the 60s/70s done right.

ps: this is a comment from someone knowledgeable of chess + chess history talking about the show, you may find it interesting

it definitely treaded in some red scare stuff, but it was all either making fun of the christians who didn’t like communism because of atheism or that fuckin CIA guy. she was so dope for telling the church ladies to fuck off and for missing her flight back to the US and staying in moscow. it seems more normalizing of russia. i think she stayed because the people there loved the game more than the politics around it.
