It can be about pretty much anything; city-building, MMO, FPS whatever I just need something chill, but not too taxing for the brain, to do while I'm focusing on the podcast content.
I use Path of Exile (Diablo-like ARPG) for this. It is pretty overwhelming at first, but once you get the basic flow it serves the purpose well. Plus it's a legit free to play
I switch back and forth between PoE and Warframe for this. Both cases, all of the attention is really only needed for build-crafting
ESP this league the best build basically just casts convocation and let’s the spectres do all the work
I hate builds on quite that level of mindlessness though, I've been enjoying clicking Penance Brand on things and just running around until the whole screen explodes
I listen to podcasts while doing dishes, cleaning, folding laundry, and baking bread. Gives me something for my mind to do during chores, makes for less drudgery, and allows me to be not just "listening to a podcast". Plus I'm normally not a very productive person, and this gives me more of an inclination to get things done.
It sounds kind of strange to me to read "I want a side of digital media to wash down my digital media".
Or maybe I'm just not good enough at dividing my attention while gaming.
Unironically Euro Truck Simulator 2 or American Truck Simulator.
I'm a fan of Civ for it, or any roguelike.
Tbh though, podcasts are something I usuay put on while playing a game, rather than playing a game as a thing to do while listening to podcasts. It's a subtle diff, but meaningful.
Minecraft, Receiver, City: Skylines, Red Rogue, basically any racing game, Nuclear Throne, Tetris/Puyo Puyo, Stardew Valley.
Viscera Cleanup Detail, Euro Truck Sim 2, American Truck Simulator, and Simcity 4 are my personal picks
I've been enjoying Dicey Dungeons. It's a breezy, simple rogue like that uses rolling dice instead of complex equipment and a few simple abilities. Dead cheap on Steam too.
I liked DD but I thought it was pretty bare of content back when I played it last year
Maybe I'm just bad at it, but I've unlocked 5 of 6 characters that all played differently and I've only cleared about a 20% of the levels in 20+ hours.
The characters are all super cool, but I found most of the variant modes beyond that to be more annoying than fun. It is a good game, though, and worth the price. I might redownload today.
I pretty much only play games that I don't need to listen to, so that I can listen to podcasts
Mount and Blade 2 (the game just reached an even better state)
Path of Exile/diablo/torchlight etc
Noita
Replaying doom
WoW (don't ever join a guild, that's how you get no life)
StarCraft 2 (just cheese every game lol)
What the Golf is absolutely amazing
Star wars squadrons
