This reminds me of a video I can't find. As I remember it, it was a bunch of Anglos using VR to "experience" what it's like for children working in mines in Africa. No surprise, most of them reacted badly and/or tapped out.

Then at the end they asked the people what they thought VR should be developed, could make people more empathetic, etc. and they all were in agreement. Then it turns out the kids were mining materials for tech components like the VR goggles and the people were still in agreement. agony-deep anglo-burn

    Okay, hear me out.

In exchange for an end to the war, both Putin and Zelensky can issue one another exclusive commemorative NFTs. This will bind them in friendship and also create a real financial incentive for lasting peace.

Forced empathization treatment for class war mongers:

You will experience a day in the shoes of a landlord until you display considerable empathy to the propertied class, brutish scum

Now put on the glasses and pay your rent

or we could do real gulags and make them do real labor

every retail store a gulag staffed by former PMCs, petit bourgeois, and bourgeois. and then we can pay former retail workers to be as rude to them as they were

I'm imagining someone sitting on a stool while people stock shelves or whatever, and just insulting them every few minutes with a scowl on their face.

If this was a real thing, it would absolutely be turned into the Torment Nexus.

The truly sad part is, is that this is one of the most respectable mainstream newspapers in Germany. The bar really is that low.

When I say "bazinga brain" that linked headline is EXACTLY what I mean. Put it in the UlyssesT slang dictionary with that as a given example. disgost

Also, knowing how techbro creeps tend to think and act, chances are that any sufficiently advanced VR treats would just be used by those techbro creeps to get off to human suffering from new and exciting temporary perspectives, the same way they like to visit impoverished areas for short bits at a time to get off to the misery, like that 90s movie Strange Days (CW: SV if you look that up).

Come to think of it, in a lower tech way, THIS HAS ALREADY HAPPENED.
