There was a WW2 bomber flyover today 'to honour the veterans' and my immediate reaction was 'if I had fought in WW2 I wouldn't want to be reminded of that shit' which rapidly turned into both of them attacking me for not respecting veterans. They both would say they're socialists.
Thank you, you put into words a lot of things I was having trouble expressing. Trying to express that the imperial war machine and the exploited people fed into it are different things just wasn't something I was able to express properly, plus they weren't interested in hearing about it. One housemate talks about horseshoe theory every other day and the other confused anarchism for fascism.
Holy shit. I can't imagine living with someone that has such a baby brained take as "fascism and anarchism are the same". Like I can almost undsrstand the anti-communists calling us red-fash because at least there's some shitty crossovers like nazbols who try to actually reinforce that idea, but anarchists? How the fuck could anarchists ever be fascists? These people need some theory, history, and probably an MRI and maybe a priest.
