Woke is back
I remember when COVID felt like it was only going to be China’s problem and everyone was panicking over nothing, but there were a few articles that said we should take drastic measures or else it would fuck up the economy and everyone would be wearing masks for a long time (probably forever), but that idea was too dark to think about. I suspect climate change is going to be the same. There are a few voices that actually have the truth, but nothing will be done about it, and once shit really pops off, things are going to just get increasingly worse until everyone just accepts the hell that’s been created.

I remember being in that boat and it's because I remember lots of other news virus scares that petered out or were dealt with in time. H1N1? SARS? That big upcoming bird flu I saw on the cover of National Geographic as a kid? None of these ever materialized in my day-to-day so I always thought the scares were overblown until COVID.
The increase in cases could be due to an increase in testing. I've seen huge lines of 20-30 outside a testing center some mornings, not especially well distanced. I did not see anything of the sort a month ago.
