I myself am a big lightsaber fanboy but I do love the idea of a jedi wielding a blaster and keeping his lightsaber holstered, makes it an even more important object.
now that you mention it it would be better if it was similar to how Geralt of Rivia handles his sword in this books ; he's absolutely deadly against swordsmen but blocking a projectile would just be sheer luck
In this very arena scene in attack of the clones, the jedi get fuckin bodied. dropping left and right. they were about to surrender when the clones show up.

I mean to be fair in the third movie you see countless Jedi unable to deal with being barraged by Clone Troopers during Order 66.
