    If we ever get a national lockdown in the USA (moot point, we never will) to the degree that only grocery stores, pharmacies, and gas stations are open, I want to see big box stores like Target, Walmart, and Costco only be allowed to sell food. COVID was a windfall for them because when things were more shut down here for retail, these corporations made bank by being the only place in town to buy clothes, et al.

      The French government tried to do something similar a few weeks ago; as, among others, booksellers are closed down and were complaining about the same thing, they've ordered supermarkets to close off the parts of the store that sold books and "other non necessary items". Though it's been implemented chaotically, what's closed off tends to change from one supermarket to another and there are not nearly enough control.

      However, it appears that when you do that, people just order that shit online and Amazon benefits instead.
