    Buying consoles on launch has always seemed like a terrible idea. No games yet and you're buying the worst version of the console before they fix any problems with it.

    That said, there are cases like the PS3 where the original version had full PS2 backwards compatibility that was later removed, so there can sometimes be a good argument for getting a console early.

      There's also cases like the Switch where it does have a pretty great launch game (Breath of the Wild), the price never drops significantly and the big issue with the console at launch (joycon drift) never gets fixed anyways. It's the only console I've gotten at launch since like the Wii that I didn't regret.

      These things do have shortages for the first year or two of launch. It's not insane to be trying to get one now if you remember what it was like for the Wii.
