hahahaha my insurance is refusing to cover my lifesaving medication because I've filled the maximum dosage for the year even though it's only November and is trying to charge me $89610.49 for a three month supply. we do love our American healthcare system folks

It's called trikafta and it's the best drug I've ever taken in my life. I have cystic fibrosis, which is a rare genetic disease primarily effecting the lungs and the pancreas and it's usually quite deadly. Average lifespan is around 40 years, many die in childhood, etc etc. Recently we've made huge strides, but trikafta is a straight miracle drug. Started taking it in October of last year and my lung function has increase dramatically, I don't cough like I'm dying anymore, I can actually retain weight, and my energy level is through the roof. It's just a pill that makes me feel like I don't have a crippling illness! However, it also costs ~$350,000 a year because we live in hellworld so it's a serious pain to get approved by any insurance provider, especially because this doesn't "go away" ever. I'll be on this pill until I die.

          That's absolutely infuriating.

Have you contacted the company that makes the medicine to explain whats going on? They might give you the medicine for free/cheap just for the two months - kinda use their greed to your advantage, you know? Like they give you some free meds so they can return to billing your insurance company 30k a month at the beginning of next year? Shitty "solution", but maybe it would work?

Yeah right now I'm still arguing with insurance to accept the prior auth I had my doctor write to up the dosage and override the max quantity received, but if that doesn't work out contacting the company is my next play.

EDIT: With this kind of disease it's unfortunately not my first rodeo with bullying insurance companies.
