I watched a doc a while ago, and there was this long extended scene where a bunch of them go to a simulation of a fancy French dinner party. Like they want to be westerners so badly it hurts, but all the can muster is this type of tacky simulacra. A bit like the housing developments in Dubai, which are just (bad) simulations of other regions in the world, a bit like those images.
