If the penalty for a crime is a fine, then that law only exists for the lower class.

6 is my favorite main line game and I stan it really hard - but I think tactics is better personally. I legit think its the best Final Fantasy ever made.

tells a great story and all, love the art and the music, but zero exploration and there's points where if you haven't leveled your characters enough you are literally stuck with no way back. it's just not a good game.

in ffvi you overthrow the government survive nuclear war and rebuild, and in ffvii you're a bunch of hippies that overthrow the government and prevent what is the equivalent of nuclear devastation.

man squaresoft really hit it out the park with what we should have been doing for the last 30 years.

The part about getting stuck is a fair point. Most games will not allow that and I think it might have been oversight. Once you learn a bit about the battle system though the game becomes comically easy... its not nearly as difficult as it seems when you're first starting out.

The more I think about it... I think I legit have gaming PTSD from the first time Wiegraf absolutely washed my ass and I had to start over. To this day I'm still scared to do things in games in fear of hitting a dead end.

When you get Cid the challenge is pretty much over. Calculate is the most overpowered skill though.

I'm probably a bit more a fan of 6, but that's pretty much entirely because of the fact I've sung "Maria and Draco" and the whole scene is awesome

13-2 fixes the horribleness of 13-1, but isn't THAT good.

10-2's pop-opening is nice but not for me.

        12, 8, Tactics >>>>>>>>>> rest.

You weighing 8 by how good triple threat is or just the baller Laguna segments?

"13-2 fixes the horribleness of 13-1, but isn’t THAT good."

Truuue and the ending (and Lightning Returns) makes me wanna die. Them pokemans mechanics tho and Serah is such a unique ff protagonist

I like 8 in terms of world-building (something that interested me with 13, IIRC the world-designer/artist team was one of the leads of 13), how broken you can make it if you want (breaking in disc 1 via Triple Triad or grind), going low level if you want.

12 is similar: You can make it as much of an auto-battler if you want. But the system (especially now in International HD) can be changed to where you can make "clones" (like the original release) if you want, or differentate them.

Both of them do more than the others in the series in terms of exploring systems and changing things up. I'll be honest, I think 7 is overrated, same with 6. They're "good" games, but not for me. So folks ranking 6-7 highly while hating 8, while understandable is sort of annoying because there is some good things to 8 (cast aside, though I like 8's cast of characters) that later entries could take or leave that they didn't.

9 (and 10-2 and 13-3/LR) are the only ones in the series that I have yet to finish/complete fully because they [9, 10-2] just... bore me. I haven't even started 13-3 despite buying it on Steam. I liked the demo's battle system, but I just don't know if I can stomach another round of Lightning and gang. They aren't a problem, it's just the whole story is a mess.

9 is slow. I keep getting to the middle of disc 1 and the slow battle speed/everything just makes me turn it off and then I forget to finish it and repeat the cycle like a year or two later. 10-2 is so hyper focused on teen-age boys (IMO) that it just doesn't have a good feeling to me. Though I should probably buckle down and finish it at least once.
