There's a guy who deleted the machine software and shut down a whole factory and almost made the company go under https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omega_Engineering
I think he really did destroy one subsidiary of an international company.
I am always amazed by how stingy companies are with their staff. How easy would it be to have just promoted the guy - how cheap would it have been compared to dealing with this mess? You didn't in the name of "optics" and now 3 people are frustrated instead of just the one AND the project is burning money. It's easy to know that what you're doing is unfair, it's 1,000,000 times harder to get the institution to admit it's unfair and it did. Fuck that place and anybody who's ever made a decision there.
way more than 3. literally everyone involved feels burned. someone at that level was running a whole team.
They only considered ‘optics’ in the eyes of their manager and the shareholders, not in the eyes of the employee and all the people who knew the employee.
Open source developers are an army, but they're not your army.
lol this is so close to a situation playing out at my old employer with a friend I hired away from there that my schadenfreude is palpable. same ghouls also threatened a woman's immigration status so :gui-better: :gui-better: :gui-better:
I sent this to him and he also thinks the details line up oddly well, lmao
even if he is not gust, please inform this based individual an admirer exists on chapo.chat
lmao he told them he wouldn't consider any counter offer less than 51% of the company o7o7o7
Okay well maybe to start with you can stop referring to people as <digit>x engineers.
guy was doing the work of 5 people at 3 pay grades less than he should have been while being asked to train his own replacements at 2 pay grades above him while getting a stream of empty promises. naturally, he left, and the company is mad that they can't keep leaning on his personal relationships that he was using to be even more effective at his job.
