This is an underlying and dark current that people don't really talk about much with this conflict. The millions of Ukrainian refugees are primarily women and children and thousands of them have been trafficked or fallen into sex work without any other way to make an income, stranded in an unfamiliar land. In the UK, there was a program where people could offer to let a refugee stay at their home and it was a bunch of middle age creeps putting women up in their house. Surely nothing untowards there.

Part of war has almost always been the stealing of women. They are considered loot like the gold from Iraqi museums, part of the conquest of war. It's fucking disgusting, but I bet there's a non-zero amount of westerners who support this conflict and escalating it because they would get tons of vulnerable women flowing into their hands.

they want to be thanked for it.

I kinda think this is a result of the part of them that isn't awful trying and failing to get them to realize this is bad, so they are left with guilt that they need their victim to absolve

They're just being incorporated into the imperial sex trafficking network, right along the women of the American Southwest, the Carribean Islands, and the Pacific Rim. Business as usual.

Ukraine was already the main european hub for sex trafficking before the russian invasion.

Rich people having banks in Switzerland to avoid prosecution. Ukraine and Moldova had actual CP studios in the 2000s and I don't just mean some guys in their basement. I mean a literal porn studio with pinup model shoots and everything. Treating the children like adult porn stars.

ah, gotcha. I was a little confused because it could either mean an illegal home, like it does here, or a neutral location. That's disgusting.

"TerOnly" is the "clever" name to play off OnlyFans and Territorial Defence, supposedly. of course the neologism sounds like a mushmouthed "terror only".

but all of that is besides the fact that no level of execution can overshadow how repugnant this concept is.

OP might be mistaken about a NYP article about a single Asian American onlyfans girl going to Ukraine and becoming a caricature of the Asian prostitute for Ukrainian soldiers, only to be met with disdain lol

It was that and some incredibly sleazy articles about how empowering it was that Ukrainian troops were soliciting sex workers.

I was being hyperbolic by describing them as comfort women but there were several incredibly sleazy, glowing articles that were posted here about a year or so ago about how good it was that the Ukrainian army was making extensive use of sex workers - I'll try and find them!

This is probably the tip of the shit iceberg for Ukraine. Can't imagine the sex trafficking gets ant better after the war when its considered safe for the sex tourists to travel to.

The whole former USSR was like that.

        CW: Sexual violence against minors.

I saw a harrowing street interview with a homeless Russian girl who looked like she was around 10. The interviewer asks her how she makes money for food and she just casually answers that she has sex with men. Interviewer pauses then asks her how many other kids are doing it and she just says "oh, all the kids my age are doing it."

Something something the Soviet woman was freed from being forced to become a scientist by Gorbachev, who gave them the option of unemployment or sex work

After maidan coup govt hit Ukraine with new wave of economical shock therapy, millions of Ukrainians went into Poland and further in EU in search of living. Men were more fortunate, largely getting permits to stay and legal jobs (a socialdumping ones though), there was around 1,7-2 millions of them in Poland. But there was also huge number of Ukrianians living in the gray zone here, and those were mostly women. Hired, often illegally, as houskeepers, servants... with or without " ". And a whole lot ended openly as prostitutes.

And that was even before the full war.
