This would be even better if Bowman weren't a Dem but I'm glad to see more people give Obama shit for pushing back against BLM regardless.

Agreed, I think we're approaching the point where the Squad (2.0) is about the right size to splinter off from the Dems and form a new party independent of the Democrats... 8 members doesn't sound like a lot but that's basically the Democrats majority margin right there.

If we double the size of the squad in 2022 there is no question that having 16 independent/3rd party members would have a ton of influence.

They could essentially block any legislation they want and force concessions from both sides... would be amazing.

I'm still skeptical of the "Squad" given their existing history with the Dems. Breaking off from the Dems would be a step in the right direction but they'd also have to significantly lurch leftward policywise (especially on questions related to imperialism and international solidarity, a typical weakness of DSA Dem entryists), reject and cut off all financial support and endorsements from the capitalist donor class, and adopt a socialist political program which centers the working class. They'd also have to significantly beef up their opsec and purge any would-be Blairites from their ranks because if they break away and form a small left bloc the feds will be on them like flies to shit.

I have a feeling they're holding back because they're beholden to the Dem party, but I guess its telling that they got into government work at all. I just hope if there is a break it'll embolden them to make that lurch leftward

I don't think they're big enough to split just yet, but you're right that they're near or at the size where they can vote as a bloc and exercise some real power in a House with a slim Democratic majority.
