My cynical mind made me give up on big movies entirely, and i totally assumed Avatar was of no interest, also Cameron seems kind of a dick. So when I listened the latest Chapo i thought they were gonna mock the movie, and i was confused for about the first 30 mins till it finally hit me, they are actually serious about this movie. Very weird experience and i really should go watch it now.

If its true that Avatar is about America doing 9/11 against the rest of the world every day, then we need much more of this.

The movie ends with the blue people marching the humans back onto a spaceship to send them back to Earth. Not sure you can get a better image than that.

Avatar is an ok version of dances with wolves I guess. Don't worry about it if you haven't watched it, there are better movies out there.

It is genuinely impressive how they got away with the US bad message in this movie. It is also impressive how this movie made so much, but no one remembers anything.

Yeah I'm not sure why anyone on the left would hate on it. It's literally about some chauvinist guy being radicalized and helping a bunch of indigenous people kick out the American (the actors are Americans) imperialists. And it is also very entertaining.

White savior seems to be one complaint.

Boring seems to be the other.

Honestly, Chapo's cultural takes are deeply infuriating and I really dont want to listen to this episode. Avatar's anti-colonial messaging is chauvinistic, muddled by stripping any kind of agency from the Na'vi and centering the movie around a white savior. Its politics arent any more radical than something like Winter Soldier, and these contrarian dipshits only like it because Avatar is deservedly being relegated to the dust-bin of the cultural memory for being boring. They'll bitch and moan about liberal Hollywood sickos all the time than suck off the biggest power broker in the fucking industry for making the apotheosis of a white guilt movie that allows him to feel good about being one of the richest capitalists in the world.

is that the phase of radicalization where you've been persuaded maoism is the correct line but you don't want to do the red guards austin shit
