“Moving to address the climate crisis does not mean you have to sacrifice, or lose your quality of life,” he said. “In fact, we will have more jobs and better paying jobs, and I believe live a higher quality of life as a result of the changes that are here. The marketplace is moving here. This is how America works.”

These people are sleazy as fuck.

Came in here to post about this. They're going to frame it as a national security issue just like those recent episodes have went into detail over. It will mean more money for the pentagon and preparations for dealing with a migrant crisis through funneling money into DHS, ICE and border patrol.

not entirely untrue tbh, technological progress can and will eventually provide things beyond our current abilities. just right now we need to scale back a smidge fuckton :party-sicko: on the whole industrial oil waste and plastic baubles thing and we'd be fine

yeah true, it's a bit more complicated than everyone living shitty lives, but it's making a big promise that probably won't be kept. (...well, it will be, cause they're very willing to let things fall apart in the name of not changing anything)

I can't help but think the leaders of Western nations just kinda decided the damage forecasts to our nations are gonna be relatively minimal and so we may as well continue leading the world in emissions anyway. Not like the global south can do anything, especially once shit gets really bad for them and all we do is tighten border security in response.
