Anyone else have a rough time during the holidays? My mom always went big on the holidays to try to give me a nice Christmas but it means that I only associate them with her, and by extension, her screaming about Pepsi broadcasting advertising into her mind.

Turns out some things are too deep to wash out, even after a decade of hard drinking.

I've never been particularly materialistic which made me the one who was "hard to shop for." It made me sad, because my family would try REALLY hard to buy me cool/nice things, but like, I'm just not wired that way. I feel bad every year because I just can't pretend to be excited about that stuff, no matter how hard I try, and I can see the sadness in their eyes when their hopes of finally getting me the "perfect gift" are dashed yet again. It's only gotten worse since I've become a leftist as now I just see the whole thing as an exercise of hollow consumerism. I don't know man, it's really bumming me out this year.

When I was a kid I used to love getting stuff and now I just don't care about things so I'm in a similar boat. I found that something that works good for me is to ask for, like, nice foods and booze and stuff like that.
