If you open a web browser where you're not signed in and try to visit /c/furry it won't load. Also if you're not subscribed to it, it won't show up in the all feed. /c/mentalhealth is like this too.
it was before user blocking of comms was a thing / probably a desire to not want the front page filled with furry stuff for people scoping out the site while not logged in? i dont really remember the discussion.
Well as it is that's definitely not a risk even if the hidden status were removed. It sees little activity cuz I think many people here don't even know it exists. Also why wouldn't we want people scoping out the site to know there are furries here?
i mean, i feel like a lot of people would be put off by that? not saying i hate furries or anything, but if i saw a site that by happenstance had mostly furry art on the front page, id assume it was a furry site and not for me and wander off. and i dont think thats a niche opinion?
I really don't think that would be a problem because most users here aren't furries and the community is pretty inactive. I think the hidden status hurts the site more than helping at this point.
It would probably grow a bit if more users knew it existed (and I hope it does) but I don't think it would take over the site or anything close.
yeah i can agree with that at least, i feel like the rest of the site is active enough to offset it. but it could be like that cause of trolls, idr what the discussion was
Why is /c/furry a hidden community? I heard there was a struggle session long ago, but I wasn't here for it.
There are hidden communities?
