My mom told me a few months ago that it isn’t fair to call landlords leeches because leeches can’t help sucking blood. I got her to vote for Bernie in the last primary. Most of the time she doesn’t want to talk politics, though.

My mom and I went on a collective rant about how liberal folks we know mistake having the right opinions and consuming the right products for political action and how too much lib id pol (versus like a well-thought out intersectionalism) puts a veil between you and anyone who isn’t exactly like you and prevents solidarity across race, culture, and gender lines.

We then veered into wondering how Robin DiAngelo gets through a conversation with any person of color without having her brain explode.

My dad just kinda sat there in silence.

I'm a 41 year old white woman, and while I'm medically diagnosed as some brand of crazy, I promise I'm not an anti-vax conspiracy weirdo...

My mom likes to knit and go on a rant about how climate change activists should act more radically, what's the point if all you're doing is shouting a few slogans every Friday, at least chain yourself to the local factory until your demands are met. She's way less lib than most of my friends my age, I'm v proud.

Although she would never use the label, my (white, middle-aged) mom is a socialist and radicalizes more every day.
