Watching Indiana Jones right now, and Marians comments like "I was just a child" and Jones' falling out with her father seem to indicate that Jones fondled a child in the story. Which... uh. What the hell? It's not even like a big part of the plot, it's just thrown in
Oh look I almost had some faith in Speilberg when he thought 12 was a bit young, but then he suggested that it's fine because she came unto him
All directors are sex pests.

That's more from the book, where Alan Grant is supposed to be like forty or something and Sattler is his twenty-two year old grad student. Laura Dern and Sam Neil look a lot closer in age, and they never say she's a grad student, so I'd say the movie actually fixed the creepy relationship.

I guess he looks older, but she doesn't look 22 or anything. An undercurrent of their relationship is that she wants to have kids someday and is feeling out whether he wants them too, and it's not certain that their relationship can last into the long term if he doesn't.
Dern was 26, Neil was 46 during filming.
Sam Neill has always looked mid 50s. I assume it's cuz of too much Aussie sun (only half joking).
Really cuz to me it looked like Neill was a bit older than Dern but only but five or six years or so.
Turns out Dern was actually like 20 years younger. Guess she just looks old for her age 🤷♂️
I only noticed on a recent rewatch, as a kid they just registered as "adults" to me
Even now i see Laura Dern in that movie as a 30 something in good shape and Neill as a guy in his later 40s, so yeah I never thought it was a creepy age gap personally.
