Watching Indiana Jones right now, and Marians comments like "I was just a child" and Jones' falling out with her father seem to indicate that Jones fondled a child in the story. Which... uh. What the hell? It's not even like a big part of the plot, it's just thrown in
If you want to say “what the hell” continuously, try watching Temple of Doom.
I rewatched the first three movies about a year ago and holy shit was Temple of Doom bad. It's not only the weakest one out of the original trilogy as far as cinematography and dramaturgy goes, the racism is just completely over the top. I was also under the impression that their ability of being able to write women with some actual agency took a complete nosedive in that one, but that was before the OP made me aware of the supposed age difference between Indy and Marian, like wth man.
It's rather famous that both Spielberg and Lucas had just gone through bad breakups before Temple, and for sure it's got that feel.
Temple of Doom has some of my favorite kills (the rock crusher, the magic lava ceremony, the alligators) but boyyyy is it shot through with veins of White Savior Complex and Women Be Nagging.
