Shit like this really does hurt and make Black comrades feel alienated. It’s pretty clear that he’s appropriating AAVE to be “ironic” because of course an educated rich white male wouldn’t normally talk so “funny.” Pisses me off that these are the people we’re supposed to see as leaders tbh.

I’m a mayo-american but it does really weird me out how often I’ll see white people I know irl adopt AAVE when texting or making posts on the internet

Like, you don’t talk like that in real life, why type that way? I think it’s because a lot of white people view certain bits of AAVE as “fun internet slang” or something

EDIT: Fuck it, even if OP is a troll, I still think it’s a point worth making

I generally think that’s alright then (though I’m really not someone whose opinion really matters on this). Like, I say y’all a lot irl because I’ve lived in the south my whole life, and I use it when typing too. But what I’m talking about is people saying words that would sound completely awkward coming out of their mouths irl, because I know them irl and I know they don’t talk like that

come to think of it, I am certain that I have heard Will use both "homies" and "prayers up" a few times on streams, the podcast, periscope, twitch. I'm not going to go through hundreds of hours to find timestamps, but it's not something he only does on twitter and I don't think he's being ironic or trying to derive humor from the contrast, he's just talking

That’s cool then. I’ll take your word for it because I don’t watch the podcast or anything lmao

I told everyone at the last meeting not to approve that tweet. Well this is what we get for being okay with appropriation.

I downvoted because I'm pretty sure this guy is a cumtown.org poster trying to troll or whatever. There's an account by his name on that site.

It makes it dumb to lay what will says at the feet of the website. "Y'all approve of this?" No. We don't approve of what chapo hosts post before they do it. We don't even approve of their content. A lot of us don't even listen to it regularly or at all. So what's the point of the accusation that we all somehow tacitly approve of what chapos do? What are we supposed to do? Go yell at them on twitter?

I think it's dumb too, I don't listen to the podcast either and Will and the gang acting like this is a part of that. But people throwing downvotes on this post doesn't read that way, especially given how this site handles conversations like this. And if you and OP both dislike or approve of Will/the pod why downvote? Seems like you agree with this and would also mock anyone who looks up to these fools

I didn't downvote the OP's thread. I downvoted a single reply made to me because it was weaksauce b8. If you google their name, they posted in a thread on cumtown.org about raiding subreddits.

Seems like you agree with this and would also mock anyone who looks up to these fools

??? I didn't didn't downvote the thread of a blatant troll so I am okay with internet blackface? Please don't make wild accusations or jumps like that. I advocated both getting rid of the downvote and removing it from view. Don't project your outrage onto me.

Lol maybe if you were clear about downvoting a comment in the thread when replying to me about people downvoting the thread we'd avoid some of this, my bad.

I never said you were okay with blackface and I have 0 idea how you got there lol but who cares, user has been banned. Have a good day

It’s called criticism and it’s a huge part of Marxism?? This kind of apathy is why this movement isn’t making ground the way it has to

What are you criticizing? We don't sit down with Will Meneker and go over his posting strategies. You're not criticizing Will, you're asking us if we approve of this. No we don't. We have nothing to do with chapo trap house other than some dork naming a subreddit after the show years ago.

Are you looking at the modlog for a specific community? Not all modlogs are created equal. Compare these:

ah yeah now I see it on the first one, with "cumtowner" as the reason. thank you

@ScreamoBMO I don't have an account there, but I was just now able to verify that "subsaharancum" existed by trying to register the name... maybe that's too much benefit of the doubt to extend, but wanted to note it.

UPDATE: also there are 4 results on google for "site:cumtown.org subsaharancum" and they're incriminating, guy_ may have known from that method as well, and it's much easier

Back in my day we called it "cultural diffusion". Is it so crazy that bits of dialect spread across the whole language?

It's not like Will is doing a "how do you do, fellow blacks" or even "as a black man" bit. It's a phrase, and fetishizing a phrase will obscure the actual pursuit of racial justice/equitability.

Alright, so why is ok to entertain by making fun of how Black people speak?
