Recruiters stole my cousin. They were vulnerable and the recruiter preyed on that insecurity. Fucking bastards
nearly every one of my male friends from high school got caught by one of these dudes.
They preyed on my cousin from a young age because he has a learning disability and hated school. When he takes the tests to get in they don't let him take his medication and he fails so he spent all of high school thinking he doesn't need to care about grades because he'll join the marines and now doesn't know want to do.
Anyone ever see those vids where some army grunt will go around asking "If you could say something to your recruiter, what would it be?" Everyone says something like "fuck you" or "I'd beat the shit out of him."
Sent it to a recruiter the last time they texted me.
Love your Twitter not sure how the military is lowing about health care and education benefits because I have full healthcare or free and got my Bachelors Degree for free also
That last one's just a straight-faced "Why did you lie to me?" Damn.
Hey kid, don't wanna be mounted with generational debt and/or a dead end job? Well do I got the opportunity for you!"

Suddenly I am flashed back to high school, signing my life away, because this shit worked on me
only people i really want to hear on this topic are people who actually did it and people outside the US tbh
This is why "all troops are forever irredeemable" is a bad take. The most powerful military on earth uses the most powerful propaganda machine on earth to target kids who are barely shaving for recruitment. That kid has zero firsthand experience with the reality of the imperial war machine, and if they try to quit once they're in they can get a black mark next to their name that will impede their ability to get housing, education, and employment for the rest of their life. We can't hold a kid 100% responsible -- with no possibility of forgiveness at any point -- for their decision under these conditions. That's totally inconsistent with how leftists should think about culpability and rehabilitation in any other scenario.
Compare this to cops, who generally sign up for pig school in their 20s, who live under the realities of American policing every day, and who can quit at any time with no real repercussions.
Spot-on all around. And damn, every time I think about Korea I'm just so fucking disgusted with this country.

This is actually something we could potentially use to our advantage, since there are various ways to help people leave the military without having it be too damaging, but most soldiers just don't know how. The command structure purposefully obfuscates regulations and military law in order to prevent soldiers from knowing their rights, but there are anti-war vet groups and other organizations like the GI Rights Hotline who specialize in this. I wish there was more awareness/support for that kind of thing. If we can help reduce the military's numbers in a way that's completely legal and might even win more people to our side, why wouldn't we want to support that?
If you come back from your tour you can get irrationally mad when someone says you shouldn't have been deployed in the first place!
This is something I don't talk about often, but I was a signature away from enlisting in the Coasties. I was in a bad situation, abusive family, no work, 2000 miles away from my closest friend. I was told I'd be able to choose my MoS and where I was deployed (both of those were lies). I wanted to get home to Chicago and I wanted a career path that wasn't working minimum wage jobs or working on an oil rig. Was told I could be trained to be an aircraft repair technician and be deployed to the Great Lakes region. Sounded real good. Get back close to home, get a job that pays well once I'm out, save up some scratch while I was in too, I knew better than to buy a mustang. As I was signing some paperwork the recruiter was talking about the next steps, they contradicted what he told me before, I pointed that out, he asked about my paperwork, I said it wasn't done, he tried to back up and change the story, I said thank you for your time, but I'm going to do something else and I left.
I was homeless after that. I made the right choice, but it wasn't easy, luckily I was able to get back to my home city after a lil while and couch surf with friends until I got onto my feet proper. That's when I learned about communism and anarchism, and I decided to stop by a DSA thing. A guy there helped me get a job. Wasn't a good job, paid like shit, but I was eventually able to stop couch surfing.
