Come be dirty and poor with me. The bourgeoisie on this site are not invited.

Let's go pee on their teslas or something.

Legitimately I hate all of them subtle bragging about their fucking jobs. Please go eat some caviar or something. Thanks.

One of our comrades here, CrimsonSage hope I got her name right, mentioned that universities are basically manners school that teach you how to dance and mingle with the rich. She put it better but that was the gist. Thanks for backing this up further being on the outside you only get the message that these people with degrees are you betters pauper, so bow down. Still I will respect whatever knowledge and skills you worked on there, don't wanna diminish the work you did and expertise in your field. Sucks to hear about those being exploited there, guess they have to fully buy into the neoliberal lie I suppose.

Yeah on the one hand you’re right, devoting your time to a topic and field is good and should be respected as a learned person, but somehow some people still have the worst fuckin takes. It really depends on the field (with obvious exceptions).

It’s funny cuz I’ll shred the academy to bits with other academics but if people who have never been to college try to shit on higher higher ed people I get kinda defensive. Something I’m working on.

I think someone we can both hate is Jordan Peterson. I'll listen to him if he sticks to his field but he rarely does. He likes to bleed over his status to everything else which annoys me. Or Ben Carson brain surgeon and politicaian, btw is he dead haven't heard from him in a while. Nevermind anyway I think this the idea of anarchy no unjust hierarchies or something. In your field I'll refer to you but in everything else we equals if that makes sense and your opinion is not worth more than mine or mine over yours.

yeah i'm really of two minds of it all. Do i think an expert in one field is an expert in all? no. But generally speaking there is something about 'devoting yourself to knowlege' that gives you a different mindset than someone who has never gone to school and is actively ignorant about the way the world works.

idk it's just really frustrating when people dump on academics because they don't know the 'real world'

I might be speaking out of my ass but the way I think is that one way of learning isn't the only way. I like the scientific method but I think maybe our learning is steeped in white supremacy and imperialism. It assumes that the only advancements comes from Europe and everyone else are just superstitious rubes that don't know anything, happen to get lucky, or needed help. Even nowadays I remembered western doctors down playing the warnings coming from let's say Vietnam about covid.

As for institutions here they exist because and for legitimizing capitalism. Mainly thinking about funding both who can go there and who controls what research to be done. I know peeps can get loans and grants but wonder if this gets them invested in the current system in order to pay off debt, I know most of my friends have to take any job now.

Full disclosure the highest I could go was community college, ran out of financial aid and dropped out since I didn't wanna do loans. I still try to think and learn but it's not easy and I get where you coming from. Once again I don't wanna discredit your work or experiences it's just truthfully I'm a little envious of you and other peeps that got to go to higher learning. Maybe this is where those dunking on higher learning are coming from but I'm just speculating.

i totally agree. there are so many issues with academia and higher education. i completely agree, which is why i am of two minds of it all.

i do think you can learn all the things someone learns in college by yourself, absolutely, but it takes that mindset and push. i have plenty of comrades who only (or never) went to college or anything. it doesn't make their opinions less valid than mine.

I guess i'm more speaking of the people who critique higher ed from the other side than you. who assume college is a communist conspiracy or whatever, when its basically the opposite.
