I posted this the other day and it was labeled as harassment and deleted. I put effort into this post and there’s no harassment in it, can y’all just let me keep it up lol. People are still out here accusing me of being a stupidpol reactionary. Posted in the dunk tank to allow for free and loose dunking if this does somehow constitute harassment.
As you may already know, I’m the one who made the posts calling for mod elections. Sorry to disappoint you all, but I am neither CIA nor am I trying to incite a color revolution (lol). I honestly wish I was a part of the Silver Legion because that shit is funny as fuck, but again, I’m just a normal chapo user. I was active in the old sub before and up until the ban (under a different username), joined the discord and I’ve lurked on this forum since the beginning. I waited until September to make my account because I’m a lurker at heart and didn’t really need a username to get what I wanted out of this site. If you look back at my comment and post history you can find some good takes, some bad ones, and just some random shit I’ve posted over the past few months.
Yesterday I made my posts calling for mod elections for a couple valid reasons.
- Elections have been promised since the very first days of this place, it’s something that me and many other users have discussed for a while, and while I know chapos generally shit on electoralism(which makes total sense) the biggest reason why I brought them up again is…
- There is no system in place for mod/admin accountability.
I think that mods should be held accountable by the users, and historically most of this site’s leadership team agrees with me. You have committed to transparency, and by and large this has been a success. I love the mod log and how you can find all the deleted content and justification for why yall decide to remove posts and ban users. The issue is that mods can do whatever they want with impunity, with no fear of consequences from the userbase if they do something fucked up. I didn’t even know I was banned until this morning, but a cursory glance at the site from last night to today with the drama I missed is more evidence that we need a system of admin/mod accountability. If you’ll look at my post (which 60% of you upvoted apparently traitors!!1) a bunch of users were chiming in with interesting ideas and possible solutions to the threat of wreckers fucking up the voting process, and I thought there was some pretty cool discourse there. If elections are something that this userbase wholeheartedly reject, that is totally fine. That doesn’t change the fact that we need a system of accountability.
Finally, I feel like I need to address the callout post that you guys stickied to the top of our site yesterday. As shocking as this may be to our extra online users, many people on this site do not have the privilege or security to dox themselves in order to prove that they are “true leftists.” It’s cool that we have organizers active on this site, but boasting about your irl accomplishments to give your claims legitimacy is not something everyone here can do. Most people assume I am a CIS white dude just because my pronouns on this site are he/him. I do my best to muddy the waters around my identity for my personal safety, and that shouldn’t invalidate my thoughts or feelings.
This is turning into a fucking novel so I’m going to go ahead and end it with this: https://hexbear.net/post/37822/comment/312422
I’m not here to create division on this site, but a substantial part of our userbase is with me when it comes to calls for admin/mod accountability. I think we can work together to come up with a system that keeps wreckers at bay while still alleviating some of the clique-y atmosphere and aggressive behavior I’ve witnessed here. At the very least if enough people call for a mod to be replaced for shitty behavior there needs to be some way to have that conversation beyond just userunion posting.
I mean in my og posts there were people coming up with solutions to the threat of brigading but I straight up said above that if the userbase doesn’t want to do it it’s whatever hahaha. Read my last sentence that’s what I really care abt.
mod elections? fuck off. the site is currently under attack.
not reading any more.
be pro trans. do everything to make the site as the sub. quit the drama.
If elections are something that this userbase wholeheartedly reject, that is totally fine. That doesn’t change the fact that we need a system of accountability.
If you care so much you'd realise it's not the time. The timing and tenor of your posts suggests an op. not giving any more bandwidth to this.
Yes bc everyone knows that the fucking CIA has a specific tenor and timing to their posts. I’m not an op I literally just want accountability this is ridiculous.
I have been here since September and lurked here from the beginning lmao did u read my post. This acct is bc I got banned.
Between that, the "I made my account in September" part, and this getting posted in the dunk tank, this is obviously a bit. Not really the time for it, though.
So you call me out in your rambling thread, link to my posts, and then wait until I’m banned again to respond? All hail the queen of praxis.
You also weren’t banned for responding to my og posts. This post was designated as harassment even though I said nothing that constitutes harassment. Fuck off.
online elections aren’t easy in the best of times and they’re impossible when we’re under active attack. Asking for them repeatedly is indistinguishable from bad faith shitstirring.
This is really the bottom line.
The narrow exception I'd make to this is that if someone puts in the effort of outlining an online election process that seriously addresses all the ways online elections could be manipulated or turn out worse than what we have, that's worth hearing. Draw up how this idea would actually work, and explain how your plan wouldn't just be an easy opening for wreckers. Go into specifics beyond "voting is limited to active accounts that weren't created yesterday, because we all know every wrecker is an obvious one." Explain what happens when you elect someone who loves the attention of campaigning for the job but hates the thankless work it entails. Again, go into specifics beyond "well there's another election and they'll get voted out, because we all know people who love campaigning more than the job itself get voted out."
If someone puts in the work to think these questions through, I'll believe they're operating in good faith. And even if they aren't, at least this variety of bad-faith posting takes more effort than "let's have elections, here are seven paragraphs of grievances I have."
Admins are speedrunning soviet centralism (which is hilarious considering they offer token anarchist ideas support)
- passed the purges stages
- right now they are sort of post ww2 where anyone can be a collaborator if they were in inconvenient place during occupation, and deserves gulag
- inconvenient questions are ignored, as living got better, living got funnier (sorry if I fucked translation)
Policies are discussed somewhere and implemented, asking for elections is psyops. I’ll continue to rp as a good citizen, and you should too, just stop caring tbh, maybe it will work out. Creating reddit clone will get you reddit, as an underlying structure is the same.
The hounding part is related to consistent banning of this particular user, if they first time were banned for trans related stuff (instead of wrecking) -it would be much more obvious, but I understand admins where in posting trenches at the time. Honestly, I’m also against elections, but there are a shitton of ways to do sortition safely (on Internet forum, where user filtering is like, super obvious, it’s the polling feature which would require significant work from dev comrades). it is worth discussing, but the only poster bringing them is banned for wrecking (at least perceptually and initially), which looked shitty at the time.
My stop caring part is about beatnik conduct in the last two days, but that’s neither here nor there, he is committed to the bit.nvm, all is well and self-reflective.Once again: I said calling it praxis was radlib performative activism ur all just being willfully ignorant at this point lmao
Yeah but it wasn’t taken down bc ppl understood what I meant and I wasn’t banned then so why dredge it up now? It’s literally an excuse to get rid of me and it’s blatantly obvious.
I don’t see how it’s falling for wrecker shit like elections have been talked about since day 1 and a lot of people were unhappy with the team here. I just want a way to hold mods accountable I don’t want to wreck this place.
Why though. I don't know any of the mods, they're just names, and I don't know anyone else here. How am I going to pick a different fucking mod?
If mods are shitty they should be replaced with new mods that’s just my opinion
I mean they're fine, who fucking cares, but more importantly, this is an anonymous goddamned site and it's easy to manipulate this. Who specifically even wants to become a mod?
I agree with election/accountability stuff, but the trans post last sentence is like reddit tier smugness, and completely inappropriate in the context. So just chill for now, comrade :meow-coffee:
Thanks. Yeah if I had known it would cause a shitstorm months later I probably wouldn’t have posted it hahah. I’m just the kind of person that bucks authority idk.
I’ve been accused of being like 50 different things that I’m not at all. It was partially prompted by all the shit I was seeing in the user union at the time. I was joking about the stickies, but yeah I get that.
