Yeah this is one of the problems. Focusing on the two events (Trump ban, capitol riot) and weighing them in the balance is pretty pointless IMHO rather than looking at the larger problems that they're illustrative of (corporate control of media and censorship, growing right-wing unrest).
But also, these things don't need to be seen as one or the other, which is the way that the OP frames it. One can be concerned with both.

Now, what did and is happening is a reaction with cooperation between the state and private media apparatuses, which is, in fact, an aspect of historical facism. The question is to what degree is that reaction going to clamp down on any apparent dissent, which, if history is any judge, will almost certainly be aimed at leftists immediately after a right wing threat is dealt with. We'll see though.
