Finally started this. Friendship ended with EIGHTIES ANIME. Now SEVENTIES ANIME is my best friend.

The last episode was on September 3rd 1980
It's an excellent show, and the manga was written before the author returned to being a lib.

80s anime™ doesn't start until late 1983, and you know it bahaha

I read the first chapter or two a few years ago, but it was a pretty poor quality bootleg scan lol
i would argue 80s anime starts in october 1982 with macross*. but yeah i don't think anything from 1980 counts
*and possibly earlier but i can't think of anything rn
That's a good pick - it's been so long since I've seen TV SDF Macross that I forgot how great it looked lol
i had to go back and watch some chunks of it on youtube to make sure it fit my internal 80s aesthetic, the shading and reflections on the mechanical design is definitely 80s
I love this anime. Love the live action musical as well, especially when done as a Chevalier d'Eon/Rose of Versailles/Scarlet Pimpernel (they remade the broadway version for Japan) trilogy
Chevalier d'Eon is very much a late 90s tribute/prequel to Rose of Versailles
Oh wow, it looks like it's one of those Takarazuka Revue plays. I need to make a mental note to check this out after finishing the TV show.
I always end up listening to GGP during my Tuesday evening chore. They don't even make it to the official Wednesday release dates lol.
oh yeah same. i'm really excited for the 00 season, it's been a fun show so far and the new format is nice. i'm never watching seed but i listened to a few episodes and they just sounded so miserable, glad to be watching some good anime for a change
also utena is my favorite show of all time so i'm so excited to start getting into its influences
Gundam SEED killed my interest in anime when I was in highschool lol. I ended up watching SEED and Destiny with GGP, but it's definitely skippable.
The bonus shows they did with it, Voltes V and Dunbine, are a delight, and so is SD Gundam Force.

Yeah, a lot of the aesthetic elements that Utena borrowed from RoV are already here 2 episodes in.
yeah i think i might watch voltes v and dunbine while listening to the seed pod
