The bad news is this will happen under President Zuckerberg, who then establishes The United Facebook.

My shitty high school US history teacher always said "Democracies only last 200 years because that's how long it takes people to realize they can just vote to give themselves more money" as an anti-welfare argument. Interestingly enough he also believed in trickle down economics. I guess voting to give yourself more money isn't bad when rich people do it.

How do these idots think money comes into existence? Do they not realize that it's just paper printed by the government? It's not like there's a scarcity of dollar bills...(well, there is now because of the pandemic, but that's a separate problem)

Yeah, I wonder if she knows how congress' salary is determined. Wish I had your teacher in high school because I loved dunking on dumb teachers.

I was talking to my dad's cousin months ago and just mentioned offhand something like, "well, no country lasts forever, America will end too one of these days" and it was like she'd had a major revelation--like it had never occurred to her that America, the chosen land, wasn't eternal. It was really strange.

It's honestly scary how many countries Facebook isn't banned in.

It's hard to think of the US as an empire for more than 160 or so years. Before that it qualified as "regional power", at best.

Still, yes it's good people are starting to recognize imperial decline.

I dunno, force projection has changed so much over the last 150 years that I'm not so sure it's applicable - how many empires have collapsed since the advent of supersonic flight or ICBMs? If the US was gonna actually fall it would be from successfully financializing its entire economy and the whole thing collapsing beyond repair.

The soviet union collapsed just under 30 years ago, and they were only ~60 years old. I think we're lasting more than 6 years but theres still a chance that it all ends some day

like my problem with this is that the us was not a empire from the get go that came with the hegemon position so it might take longer for this
