This never happened. A New Zealander once accidentally clapped in 1957 and they now live in the southern alps out of embarrassment.

Good. Americans need more disdain and shunning when we go abroad. The world is entirely too nice to Americans. I'm American btw.

In my experience there's usually an outwardly friendly passive agressive insult masked as laconic humour.

"Oh, you're wearing cargo shorts, socks and sandles, and a cheap plastic hei-tiki. That's a bit of an adventurous look, isnt it."

And they were all dressed as Lord of the Rings characters.

And then Trump coincidentally tried to walk into the same coffeeshop, but was blocked by a guy dressed as Gandalf and told that "CHEETOS SHALL NOT PASS!!!".

    And then everyone clapped again.

Ooff, poor Neil Gaiman has to be engaging in ultra cringe rn.

I thought she was cooler than that, quite liked the Dresden dolls. But then she's pretty much the median late 90s WTO protest left-liberal type and this kind of thing is pretty par for the course for the aging "rebels" of the post Soviet dark age. They still think something like Obama is the most we can hope for.

Yeah, he isn't. I follow him on twitter because I like his books, and a few months ago he was libposting about how McCain and the rest of the piece of shit republican war criminals "used to be so polite".

Other way round, I think. He flew to NZ to join her during the lockdown, things went bad at some point, and he flew back to the UK as soon as the lockdown allowed. She's still here posting incredible amounts of cringe.

Oh yeah for sure. I didn't mean to make any judgement with regards to their relationship although I realise I may have implied it in my tone without intending to.

    She has to be kidding.

I thought Amanda Palmer was cooler than that.

Also we don’t clap. Not at the end of movies. Not when planes land. Not when Albert Einstein proved god was real. The only time is when the teacher is summoning our attention.

    Clap-clap-clapclap-clap

    CLAP-CLAP-CLAPCLAP-CLAP

I know nothing about this woman but I hate her.

All I have to say is that she has big Jo Swinson energy and that's enough for me.

    ...what?

Why would a coffee shop clap?

Is this something that I'm not American enough to understand?
