some policy wonk would be better at explaining this but the scumbag is pushing these policies with obvious loopholes in them.

for example, this order has been given only to the doj, it doesnt apply to DHS/ICE. a similar thing exists with the 15$ min wage. it's purely performative.

I dont like him obviously, but I miss the guy who suggested we nuke a fucking hurricane. I'm gonna miss this country being true to itself; now we have a veil of dignity protecting this neo-liberal order.

Biden didn’t even end the use of private prisons. iirc literally none of the current contracts will be up within his term meaning anyone else can step in and undo this because it wasn’t immediate. It’s standard Dem bullshit of pretending to do something while allowing the GOP to step on their toes so they can complain about it later

The BOP had already decided not to renew the contracts. Biden did nothing except say no new ones could be made.

He didn't lift a finger to make this happen, its 100% a media stunt. Capitalism decided not to have any more federal private prisons, not Biden

I don't know about this specifically, another user linked this further down the thread.

But the big players in private prisons, CoreCivic and Geo Group, are not panicking—and rumors of their impending demise have been exaggerated. That’s because they’ve been steadily diversifying, placing their bets on a future that includes revenue from commercial real estate, electronic monitoring, and halfway houses.
On a quarterly earnings call just two days after the election, CoreCivic CEO Damon Hininger was asked about the possibility that a Biden administration may end the company’s contracts with the federal Bureau of Prisons. He replied confidently, “We think our risk is pretty minimal there.” He noted that back in 2010, the agency accounted for 15 percent of the company’s revenue. Today it’s just 2 percent.

*Unless it involves keeping kids in cages on the border.

Legit I'd love to see a news organization treat it as a done deal that Joe Biden will free those kids by going to the facilities and making a big fuss about how he's going to overturn Trump's policies and make it so he either has to go through with it (best case scenario) or put him in a position to admit he's not doing that (second best scenario, with a huge gap between this and the best case). Liberals will of course suddenly begin defending keeping kids in cages.

Okay, but aren’t individual states the ones that use private prisons more than the federal government?

Hasn't closed the ICE campes, 15 min wage... by 2025, negotiating the already laughable 1400. I'd get my little streamer whistle to celebrate how great he is but I had to sell it to pay rent.

this only applies to like 14000 of the inmates. don't get taken in by this bullshit it's basically performative. in order to apply this on a national scale where they'd actual get rid of all the private prisons they'd have to figure out a way to do this on the state level, and try to push for some kind of amendment or supreme court case. kamala harris is this fuckin guys VP, she basically lives on the joy of putting people in prison for profit.

joe biden wrote a fucking executive order just to nullify trump's executive order which capped insulin prices for the uninsured and forced health centers to pass the savings they were granted onto the patient.

fuck joe biden, fuck trump too, but this take is just fucking hot garbage.
