Like we stan post-Castro Cuba for being a successful socialist state, but I never see any criticisms of them hosting a US torture facility. Any talking points around this one?

They keep asking the US to leave, but the US keeps saying no, and realistically Cuba declaring war on the US is probably not going to go well for them.

Right. Thats kind of what I figured I mean the US can basically laugh and do what it wants if you're smaller than, say, Germany. Was wondering if there was anything more to it though. Didn't know they keep asking us to leave.

In the 2009 election, the opposition in Japan won by a landslide. One of their main campaign promises was to close a military base on Okinawa. 1 year later, the prime minister resigned because he failed to do that.

Not even the big allies of the US can do what they want when it comes to the military.

Lol imagine actually resigning because you couldn't keep a key campaign promise. :obama-drone:

My understanding was Guantanamo is subject to hostile occupation by the US and Cuba can't do anything about it.

Ya know I didn't even check Wikipedia. I forget to check mainstream sources about communism questions because digging through black book propaganda is exhausting. Thanks

Basically the Cubans have no say in the matter. Gitmo is a colonial outpost that the US decided to keep. Just like the Panama Canal Zone was. And signing away the canal definitely played a part in Carter losing reelection because US Americans are the worst, so I don't see the US voluntarily handing it over to the Cubans anytime soon, even though the US absolutely has no right to be there. Even Obama, pretty sure he was only saying the detention facilities there would be closed, not that the US would give Gitmo back to the Cubans.

The Cubans would love for the US to leave Gitmo, there's just nothing they can do about it. Not without starting a war.
