The communist manifesto is kind of a banger though. I think someone who has just started being like "oh capitalism kinda sucks" can read the CM in an afternoon and come away pretty satisfied.
If someone is already open to the idea, sure. The moment you pull out the Big C around casual folks who've discovered capitalism sucks, you risk losing 'em. I've seen it first-hand: people who rail about all the bad shit about capitalism, but the moment someone says Marx, Communism, Socialism, etc, they immediately clam up.
Hit 'em with stuff from the Manifesto, though, or other theory. I forget where it's from exactly, I know it's Marx, but when he talks about the capitalist reducing the proletariat to just work and survival related needs, and how anything more than the bare basics is considered an untenable luxury, is a great place to start. It's basically the "Stop having a Netflix account" articles but in reverse.
depends though...when i was younger i thought it was some ultra hardcore "naughty" tome like the satanic bible or anarchist cookbook (yeah i'm kind of old). not sure if it still has that rep these days. so something more contemporary and stealth may work better.
