Isn't that the one that only has a pilot episode, and somehow generated pages upon pages of discourse on tumblr -- where the discourse devolved into manipulative strawmen and bullying as online media discourse often does?

My opinion is this: hand-wringing over media consumption is the 69th form of liberalism, and people who think other people's media consumption is worth arguing about aren't worth your time.

I guess I leaned in too much to the "drama associated with them" part of your post.

The other stuff is on a case-by-case basis. Quality varies wildly among cartoons that air on major channels too, not just online. Shows like Family Guy have been dogshit for years, yet they keep cranking out new seasons. The same goes for production conditions -- some online cartoons are produced by exploitative companies (think Machinima), while others are the projects of passionate individuals. Aside from online cartoon episodes often being much shorter than those on TV, I don't think there's all that much of a fundamental categorical difference. Shows on the air with big budgets can be terrible, and anyone who writes off something posted online purely because it's not on TV is just a snob.

As for Hazbin in particular, from some short clips that I've seen, the quality of the animation itself looks great -- lots of detail, especially in motion. Some of the character designs, however, aren't very good IMO. They look like someone glued some random shapes to a character's body. It's all very 2009 Hot Topic-ish.

I feel like having an opinion about Hazbin Hotel is something I’m too old for. I watched maybe 5 minutes and found it tasteless, but not in a way that was entertaining. The art was competent, at least. It looked like effort went into making the visuals, I guess, but probably more time should have been spent on the writing.

I used to half-heartedly follow a lot of the old webcomics that basically existed as a source of drama. It was fun to watch people argue about stuff that was obviously terrible.

I enjoyed it but I'm also probably in its target demographic of old zoomers who remember newgrounds, heard there was some drama, wasn't interested. Otherwise randos on YouTube produce the best animation full stop, I rewatched confinement the other day and its great

If i like animation, and dont like anime, i imagine there’s little else to watch other than internet cartoons.

I think I put it on once and didnt watch it cause i was doing something. Whatever, I’m sure it’s fine.

Well it looks very stupid, but at least the fans are also extremely annoying edgy teens
