Someone who I recently reconnected with (and thought had some left leanings) said something along the lines of "both sides should be glassed." I tried talking with them about it before they said they're just tired of it all and emotionally drained. Maybe I was too nice because now I feel some regret for not telling them they're a fucking asshole.
It angers me that priveledged people get to just casually disassociate with a topic because something's too mentally taxing to imagine while people are currently living in it. Yeah there's not a lot you as an individual can do, but maybe the least you can muster is to understand it and not call for a both-sides genocide.
I got a relative like that. "I don't like thinking about politics."
Like dude you send your kids to public school. There's some politics involved with your kids. You care about your kids. Care a little about politics. Pretty please. With a cherry on top.
