Yeah, that one's tough for sure. Start with TNG but be very aware that the first two seasons had huge issues behind the scenes and went through a crazy amount of staff before it settled around season three. There's a lot of good episodes in there however so I'd say just go with it. Bad episodes are part of the Trek experience. Oh also Code of Honor in season one is hella racist.

I'd then check out the original series, the camp factor is huge and it's very much from the 60s and very sexist. I'd look up a list of essential episodes and then maybe check out a few random other ones. The original series movies are great however, except for 5 but it's funny bad.

DS9 is the king. It references a lot of the other shows and focuses a lot more on space politics. You could follow TNG and not lose too much if the original series doesn't do it (I'd still check out the movies though). It's also very very left leaning and even features fully justified terrorism shown as good.

Voyager wishes it was TNG and is very mediocre. Enterprise started getting good right before being cancelled. Eh. Watch em if you want more Trek.

Discovery didn't do it for me. It's an action drama. Not into it.

Star Trek Picard is a travesty.

Star Trek Lower Decks is a newer animated comedy set just a bit after DS9. It's very referential so probably good to have at least TNG and DS9 under your belt for full enjoyment. It's good.

I finally got around to watching Discovery last month. I don't think is bad for a sci-fi show it just doesn't really feel like Star Trek most of the time. Season 3 really did show some potential in the right direction though. No spoilers but it looks like season 4 may be more focused on real exploration rather then constant save the galaxy bullshit. I hope anyway.

I gave up part way through season 2. I heard season 3 was decent but whatever. There's a lot of other trek .

I nearly gave up in season two but i was board as fuck so I kept going. But every fucking episode played out like "we have five minutes to do ten minutes of work or everyone dies! So lets sit here and talk about our feelings for the next four minutes and thirty seconds" That got real old real fast. If you do feel like getting back into just read what happens in season 2 and then skip right to 3.

For whatever reason I can enjoy cheesy 60s and 70s Doctor Who but I can't enjoy the cheesy 60s ST:TOS. Not sure what's different.

Discovery didn’t do it for me. It’s an action drama. Not into it.

Star Trek Picard is a travesty.

Thank you, I like Disco but I accept that it's not for everyone, and I just want people to accept that it's not awful like Picard, just not for everyone.

Anyway DS9 is still the best Trek by far.

Discovery has a great cast and I wish it wasn't so focused on Burnham and would slow down and breath a bit so we could get to know them in a non emergency. Picard is what garbage brings to the curb.

Totally agree, Disco should be way more ensemble. Season 2 went that way for the first half of the season, then kind of abandoned it to focus on Pike and Mike. Season 3 Nhan was written off the show, and now the bridge crew has people I don't even know the name of and that sucks. The credits say her name is Nilsson, but who?

It creates a huge problem with investment where the threats are massive and galaxy threatening but there isn't a single person in that galaxy that I'd be bothered to see go. We know it's not the real galaxy and even if it was that's like 200 years from now anyway. If the setting isn't relatable than you gotta give us characters we care about.

I'm cautiously optimistic for that one. Disco Pike was fantastic, I'll give them that. Lower Decks showed they have the capacity to make Star Trek at least
