I mean. The movie was really good but don't change the damn speech.
All media and discussion about the Black Panthers surgically removes their communism
And thus every generation of leftists feels alone in their radicalism within the USA because they deny our rightful history. They seed doubt that we're doing something worthwhile by pretending it's always rebellion within a vacuum. They would rather cherry pick quotes and change legacies than admit that leftism has it's own history, going back decades and centuries.
I mean, yes, but it's not your enemies' job to do your propaganda for you. Of course they're never going to acknowledge how much socialism has done for human progress. It's up to us to connect the dots and tell our story.
I feel like it'd be pretty hard to watch that and not get the impression they were reds but maybe im overestimating political literacy
Yeah early on in the movie he quoted Mao (and said as much) talked about building class consciousness and enhancing the contradictions of capitalism.
Hell even in the first video they play of him they play the "you don't fight capitalism with black capitalism were going to fight it with socialism"
The Black Panthers were just militant woke idpol. Neera Tanden wearing a black beret with an M-16 making sure you don't talk shit about Nancy Pelosi's $100,000,000 net worth.
Still tells the story well it's hollywood but how many kids were taught about Fred Hampton in the US ya know?
None of this should be surprising. I mean Jay Z is a billionaire and he really rapped "I arrived on the day Fred Hampton died."
What specifically did they take out? I just finished and didn't notice anything.
Just the quote "I believe I'm gonna die in the international revolutionary proletarian struggle" but his family is still alive his wife and kid who am I to dictate what should or should not be included.
I'll have to rewatch the scene. Maybe I filled it in myself but I could have sworn he said that or something really close. Haha
