Just to add another layer to this, the darkened area is pretty gentrified at this point. Note the recently-built, boxy apartment building in the midground on the right. Also, judging by what appears to be the railing of the balcony that this was taken from, the original photo was likely taken by a gentrifier.

Not entirely. Lots of residences downtown, and the hotels are currently occupied by people whose homes went without power.
No doubt there are some empty offices too, but to think that's everything you're seeing would be false.
Arent the apts in the city towers mostly empty though 1000+ for a studio is a joke in tx
I have a solution for that, though, and it involves all the people without homes.
