The default password to road-side message signs is “DOTS”

If the password has been changed, hold "Control" and "Shift" and while holding, enter "DIPY". This will reset the sign and reset the password to "DOTS"

Happy marketing

    WARNING

    :billie-eilish-anarchist: :party-blob: :virgil-sad:

As far as I know, this tip refers specifically to ADDCO signs and was widely disseminated online in 2009 by this post. ADDCO's 2017 models are controlled and programmed by a smartphone app that gets an alert if the sign detects unexpected movement. Additionally, you could just as easily be dealing with a sign from another manufacturer, like Wanco or or AmSig, which probably have different defaults, different interfaces, or unexpected security features. It may be possible to find documentation online for your target, but find out before you fuck around. Don't smoke banana peels, don't mix ammonia and bleach, and don't do illegal shit if you're not sure what you're doing.

I don't understand. What does a password do? What are you supposed to do with the password?

Electronic road signs are machines that make messages appear. If you have the password you can make them display a message that isn't the same as what it was otherwise saying.

No I mean what are you supposed to do literally with the password, like what do you enter it into?

Yep, just a little keyboard on the back. Might be behind a locked door, but you can usually either pick it or cut it insanely quickly. If it's a Master lock, just look at it sharply.

If you do bypass a lock though, you may be bumped into either a class 1 misdemeanor or a felony. I'm not sure.
