Lib politics is about aesthetic. This strike seems to be as well. The strike itself isn’t that egregious (yes it’s bad, but in reality we should be more upset about the capricious sanction warfare on Venezuela and Iran that causes so much more human suffering than this one strike).
This could have been accomplished with drones and very few people would be talking about it. This seems like a politically calculated move to have unity with the republicans or some shit, or to make Biden look tough. That’s the saddest part to me.
I think it was more of a defensive move, "if we don't retaliate then we will look weak, and we can't allow that". It's the same stupid logic that perpetuates this shit every time. Put troops somewhere they shouldn't be, troops get harassed by a neighboring country that feels justifiably threatened, retaliate against the harassment. Bing bang boom, we're at war.
I don't necessarily think war with Iran is on the table this time, it's more like they're just going through the motions because they feel like they have to.
Of course it also probably ruined any remaining chances of a new nuclear deal with Iran, which means the sanctions will stay in place in perpetuity, so you could actually ascribe a pretty high future death toll to this bombing.
Not like the dems care, but if this was done to make Biden look tough or win over republicans it's never going to happen. Sure some never Trumpers might be wooed but the vast majority of them are still going to see Biden as a radical leftist.
My "stop the steal" fb acuaintances have turned so antiwar they make '60s hippies look like warhawks.
I don't think anyone cares wether it was a drone or jet. Israel could have done this though and no one would care. They do it all the time.
It wouldn’t have likely gotten as much press if it was a drone. We do thousands of drone strikes that go completely unnoticed
