I don't get the show, so correct me if I'm totally wrong, but perhaps people just want to fantasize about being part of a community and having fulfilling relationships, but capitalism realism has so broken their brains that they can only find it realistic or relatable if it's set at work.
Hard agree. Hate both the American and British version. How can I enjoy a show about a place I don't want to be: work.

Sounds reasonable enough. I probably did this with Star Trek as a kid.
