Fun fact: the Netherlands had two major Nazi-aligned parties, one for Protestants, one for Catholics, because that's how well Dutch Christians get along.
...Oh, this is a language learning post... Is Afrikaans to Dutch like Australian to American English or like Quebecois French to Metropolitan French? Can you understand it easily?
Now we have a new form of verzuiling. The Netherlands has an incredible issue on integration and cohesion between education groups. Barely any interaction between practical education and university education. This is a major disadvantage for class solidarity because many, especially the younger generation, have been struggling with their income and debt and education doesn't matter the majority of both groups is working class.
Why does Dutch sound like German and Danish had a secret lovechild
WHAT ARE YOU HIDING
Dutch definitely has that "talking while trying to dislodge a loogie from your throat" vibe in common with Danish, though.
nobody ever bothers to learn Dutch
it's not our fault you all speak better English than Brits
wait maybe it is
True! Though I meant more that a lot of us speak really bad English, lol
I actually do have a question, how are double vowel sounds pronounced? I've been saying stroop with an "oh" sound and straat with an "ah" but I've got no idea if that's actually right. Idek for the rest of them too
I've been to Amsterdam. I've watched Dutch people talk to each other in English. I've never seen Dutch people speak Dutch. Nothing you can do will convince me that "Dutch" is a real language and not a made up Tolkien language like "Norwegian" or "Croat" or whatever.
Dutch is one of those languages twins develop to use among themselves early on during language acquisition but on a national scale.
oh, I've seen Dutch people speak to each other in Dutch, it's basically “khkhkhkhkhkhkhkhkhkhkhkh”
No you haven't. That's just the Dutch locking on to your neural transmitters to send you a signal of people speaking to each other in Dutch. Don't underestimate their psychic powers.
Is dutch the one that looks like phonetic english or is it the one that sounds like you're gargling marbles or is it both somehow?
its either Denmark, Belgium, or Prussia--I don't think anyone knows for sure
Jokes on you I have to learn Dutch to get a job hahaha :angery:
And add in "kanker" a few times in a sentence and your good to go!
And if you want to sound Afrikaans for whatever reason just use "poes" instead!
fun fact dutch speakers can understand german but germans can't understand dutch
they can only understand if they learned it. They wouldnt be able to understand if they were never exposed to it.
Which mispronunciation do you prefer:
The British van Goff
The American van Go (Fuck Yourself)
