Every day I try to do as little work as possible. I had assumed that at some point they would fire me and then I'd be free. Instead I'm slowly moving into management roles. Real Office Space situation. Now I'm afraid to quit because where else could I work this little?

Just keep making your way to the pmc chain. Soon you'll have an office with a hammock in it.

I hate wasting my life away doing nothing too much to be satisfied with that.

I think a lot of our parents just got more benefits, had more to look forward to, just got paid more for less, got more mileage out of their money, and none of the consequences of the lifestyle were ever on the horizon.

That joke about buying your first house straight up cash from the money you made in one year at your minimum wage job and selling it for a quarter million years later has more than a kernel of truth in it.

I know someone from my parent's generation who worked retail pharmacy. They became a pharmacist before there was any extended school requirement, and they were making nearly 6 figures a year coasting on that. Now, you would need excellent marks from a great school, do an accelerated 'doctoral'-like program for 3-4 additional years, and make a fraction of that with less benefits and less stability.

The people from our generation, I don't understand how they do it either. I think a lot of people are just grinding to try to survive, and sadly they have no exposure or access to socialist or communist thought.

Just become known as the person who's always fidgeting with their pockets, then it will only look suspicious when you're not stealing.

Yeah I gotcha. Dunno what's you work, but if it's commercial/sales you can always find a trustworthy bud that has a tendency to forget to ring scan stuff at the self-check kiosks when you're not looking lol

Worried they’ll notice you fiddling with your bag? Do it all the time

the all seeing eyes of the archons only see what's abnormal for your behavior.

Fuck that. Becoming part of the problem will never solve anything. "Investing" just means leaching off other people's labour, as does "make as much money as you can" most of the time.

I see no problem in becoming an ascet, getting out early, and not having kids though.

I know not everyone gets this luxury, but if you can knuckle through the 8 hours, you can spend your other hours doing something personally fulfilling. I started cooking and making clay figurines

As others have said, play Diablo 3 and shitpost all day while trying to sound smart, get promoted to management, do even less and outperform the shitty micromanagers. Also unionise if you want.

Also, if work wants to alienate me from it I'll take it and go put my energy into things I love. Got plenty of other shit to do.

Join the IWW or similar and learn to organize.

Seriously. There's another black pill in there but it'll get you some meaning to work (or your workplace) too

My experience has been: if you get along with your workmates you can bear through it just as an excuse to be paid to hang out with them. But you still hate the job itself except where you maybe are able help someone out in some way.

However, after about 3 years in my office job, I've decided to go back to painting while I get into game design. 3 years as a painter's apprentice was a hell of a time, but it was totally worth it.
