I deleted my fucking reddit account and I'm never going back so I'll comment on the stupidity of the top comment here instead:

however not even being able to achieve the desired system is a clear indicator of its whole idea's failure, independent of the failure's reasons

I mean seriously this is flat on its face idiocy and its depressing its the top comment. The reasons don't matter???? This is essentially the equivalent of saying that the failure of elections to achieve democratic results is a clear indicator of the failure of democracy as an idea...regardless of things like voter suppression, propaganda, or even outright fraud. Its just absolute fucking nonsense.

The French revolution collapsed into the tyranny of emperor Napoleon, therefore liberal democracy can't work. Just look around now, in the year 1913, constitutional monarchy is clearly the best possible system and will never be replaced

This argument also tends to disregard the fulfillment of desired results from socialist movements even without achieving the whole stateless, classless thing. Like decreasing poverty, liquidating landlords, increasing literacy and medical coverage, etc. You know, political goals.

the ideological double standard is really galling. communists had goals that they did not entirely achieve. you can't judge capitalism on whether or not it achieves its goals because it (supposedly) has no goals, it's (ostensibly) not a project, it just is. it's fine that it requires mass suffering to function, because the stewards of the system have never really aspired to end that suffering.
